I know everyone else is getting as randy as me for SEC football, so I thought I'd take a look around Blogfrica for you to see what's the haps around the conference.

Let's start at the perennial bottom of the barrel (or bottle of purple drank if you happen to have the same doctor as Bobby Johnson).  Fresh off its first bowl appearance since Bear Bryant was alive, Coach J is making his athletic department proud.  Oh what's that?  They don't have one? Sheesh, Woops. Sorry.

"I think the sky's the limit for Vanderbilt," Johnson said. "We expect to compete for championships. We can continue to make those kind of leaps and bounds."

Yes, when it comes to medical breakthroughs, major label record deals, or Nobel prizes, the sky is definitely the limit in Nashville.  Football... eh, I'm not buying it.  Even the guys at SECSportsHub.com stopped short of validating the claim.

Garnet and Black Attack has former Penn State signee Darrell Givens headed to Rutgers instead of Columbia, where he could have been of use in a secondary that will be facing, among others in the coming years, a Tennessee  version of Pete Carroll's Pro offense, a Gator spread attack no one has yet to stop, and a retooled Georgia attack behind Joe Co..ahaha.. okay still can't do that one.

More after the jump...

Who's the starting QB on the Plains?  Chizik and Malzhan still don't know either according to the latest news out of Opelika.  I'm still betting Kodi Burns wins the job, but it's still probably a good move to let the competition continue into the fall.  Probably should pick one and stick with him before, you know, those 8 losses start piling up.

Finally, let's ring The Hat's bell and see what's cooking.  First of all, there will be no mention of last season's 5 L's, that's for sure.  We're talking '09 squad and '09 squad only in Baton Rouge.  The bad news?  He still doesn't know whether #1 signee Craig Loston will be on the roster (he's not currently on the school's official athletics site).

"Craig Loston will probably not be here until school starts," Miles said. "He's got class work that he's finishing."

LSU classes begin on Aug. 24. Loston is currently taking correspondence courses, Miles said.

That'll do it for this week's look around the SEC.  If you haven't seen it at EDSBS, Rocky Top Talk, or Mr. Irrelevant (thank you very much Mr. Mottram), the new Michael Oher-based movie, The Blind Side, starring Sandra Bullock (wtf?) is out.  I won't subject you to the video, but any of those links will get you there.  I hate it when they squeeze football into a chick flick.  Like when Freddie Prinze Jr. walked out on a perfect game.  Don't try and tell me that that film shouldn't have ended with 8 guys beating him to a pulp and a gratuitous Jessica Biel bikini shot.

Whatever you do, just don't tell my buddy Coach J that I feel this way.  He loves a chick flick.

Our 2 part SEC preview is coming in the next 2 weeks, thanks to Brubaker, who let me know at last count it was pushing 25,000 words.  So stock up on beer boys.  We're almost there!
