Pending sports seasons always bring many opportunities for interviews, prognostications, and commentary.  Lucky for us, that time is upon us.  Let's take a look at a few instances that probably didn't go as well as intended.

This week's "things you probably shouldn't say with a microphone in your face."

David Ortiz, in 2008, knowing he had used PEDs in the past was asked what should happen to players caught using them.

Answer: “Ban them for the whole year."  I couldn't agree more.  I would say go ahead then and head back to DR until April, but I happen to be of the contention that enjoys seeing the Red Sox lose and Ortiz's departure would probably make them better.  So please, this time Papi, just keep whiffing at curveballs.

Anyone who's had the -- cough -- pleasure to see a newscast in any of 100 languages in the past 24 hours is well informed on the Beer Summit hosted by President Obama at the White House yesterday.  It was designed to bury the hatchet between a Harvard Professor and a Massachusetts cop.  What you may not know is that our Mr. President dug his way into this by weighing in on something that should have been at most a local matter and at least a non-issue anyway.

He said the police had "acted stupidly."

Mr. President, please don't weigh in on this type of minutiae when we have a national healthcare crisis.  Right?  As far as the beer goes,  from my side of the fence, the more the better!  I'll have a Lefty!

Okay enough non-sports-talk.

Finally, Hawaii's coach, who I was shocked to learn is not in fact June Jones, said "faggoty".  It's generally understood that there are some words that are off limits for everybody.  Faggoty is definitely on that list.

If you are going to say it, however, at least have the balls to refrain from asking everyone not to report it.  That just comes off a little...  um... what's the word I'm looking for here?
